Willsbridge

A very old picture of WillsbridgeWillsbridge is a small village between Bath and Bristol and about 1.5 miles from Keynsham. It's name is derived from the Anglo Saxon words 'wyl' (spring or well) and 'brugge' (bridge). The village's name has metamorphosed from Wylsbrugge to wylsbrudge to wils bridge until reaching its current name. Roman remains have been found nearby, and it is thought by some that the original settlement may have been on or near the Roman road: Via Julia The black and white picture shows what would now be the view from the roundabout that now tops the Keynsham road, looking towards Hanham.

At some point I will get round to dodging the traffic for a current view for comparison purposes.

Pictures

Cycle path next to the railwayThis first picture shows the cycle path running alongside the tracks of the Avon Valley Railway and towards the Willsbridge valley.

The railway runs for about 5 miles (I think). The cycle path continues all the way into Bristol in this direction and all the way to Bath if you turn around and head back.

Riverside walkAs you may guess (this being a nature reserve) the valley is a great place to go for a quiet walk. The picture on the left shows the path that runs alongside the river (on the left of us) towards the old mill.

There are bats not far from here as well, although the site isn't accessible.
